Private Jet Operating Costs, Every Model Ranked

The annual cost to own and operate over 70 private jets and turboprops, ranked: fixed costs, hourly costs and the total at 100, 200 or 400 hours, from one transparent cost model.

What does a private jet cost to run once you own it? This table ranks 73 private jets and turboprops by their estimated annual cost to own and operate, using one transparent cost model for every one: what you pay each year whether the aircraft flies or not (crew, training, hangar, insurance, management), plus what each flight hour adds (fuel, maintenance, engine reserves, fees).

Flown 200 hours a year, the lowest-cost aircraft in the table is the Pilatus PC-12 NGX ($582,259 a year at 200 hours), a single-engine turboprop; the lowest-cost jet is the Cirrus Vision Jet SF50 ($623,291 a year at 200 hours). The most expensive is the Bombardier Global 7500 ($3,559,287 a year at 200 hours). Change the hours to see how the order moves: jets with high fixed costs climb the table when they fly less.

Select a column to sort it. The hours switch recalculates the annual total and the cost per hour; the class menu narrows the list to one size of aircraft.

73 models, ranked from the lowest annual cost at the hours selected. Fixed costs are per year; variable costs are per flight hour; the total per hour spreads the fixed costs over the hours flown. Estimates in U.S. dollars, before the purchase price, financing and depreciation. 70 more models with cost pages are listed under the methodology.

The median by class

The class medians make the pattern plain: each step up from a very light jet adds roughly $300,000 to $1.1 million a year at 200 hours, much of it crew. The dark part of each bar is the fixed cost, which is paid even if the jet never leaves the hangar.

Median annual cost at 200 hours

  1. Turboprop (2)$643K
  2. Very light jet (8)$712K
  3. Light jet (18)$1.17M
  4. Midsize jet (12)$1.50M
  5. Super-midsize jet (11)$1.82M
  6. Large jet (12)$2.40M
  7. Ultra-long-range jet (10)$3.49M
  • Fixed (crew, hangar, insurance, management)
  • Variable (200 hours of fuel, maintenance, engine reserve, fees)
Median of each class's models in CRAFT's ownership-cost data (count in brackets), before purchase price and depreciation. Every model is in the operating cost league table.

At 200 hours, fixed costs are 40 to 50 percent of the bill in every class; fly fewer hours and they become the larger share. The line-by-line medians are in what it costs to own a private jet.

What the numbers include, and what they don't

Every dollar figure in the table comes from CRAFT's cost model, the same figures as on that aircraft's own ownership-cost page. Select a model's name to see its breakdown, every input behind it and a budget calculator for any number of hours.

  • Fixed, per year: crew salary, crew training, hangar, insurance, management fee and other fixed costs (subscriptions, charts, software).
  • Variable, per flight hour: fuel, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, an engine overhaul reserve, landing, handling and crew travel fees, and other variable costs.
  • Total per hour: the fixed costs spread over the hours flown, plus the variable cost. At 100 hours a year it is far higher than at 400, which is why low-use owners often put their aircraft on a charter certificate or choose a jet card instead.
  • Not included: the purchase price, financing, depreciation, sales and use tax, and any charter revenue. For what jets cost to buy, see private jet prices; for value and every tail on the market, follow the "specs and value" link to UseRadar, our aircraft data site.

These are planning estimates, not quotes. Real budgets move with the aircraft's age and maintenance program, where it is based, crew pay in that market, the price of Jet A and how the aircraft is flown. Every model's fuel is costed at one price, $7.66 a gallon (October 4, 2026), our estimate of the posted U.S. average at an FBO from our jet fuel price data; contract fuel often costs less, and the fuel burn calculator works it out at any price.

Methodology

Every model is costed by the same model, so every row is built like the next:

  • Crew: pilots by size (one for turboprops and very light jets, two for most jets, a flight attendant on large jets and a third pilot on ultra-long-range jets), paid at U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics wage levels for commercial and airline pilots stepped up with size, plus about 43% for benefits from the BLS employer cost data.
  • Fuel: the model's average hourly burn, from the manufacturer where it publishes one (Pilatus) and otherwise Conklin & de Decker's published averages, at one Jet A price for every model.
  • Hangar, insurance, training, management, maintenance, engine reserves and fees: stated ranges by size, from published airport hangar rates, an insurance broker's published premiums, the FAA's published training orders, Pilatus's published CrystalCare program rates (used outright for the PC-12 NGX and PC-24) and CRAFT estimates where nothing is published. Insurance is priced on each model's value from UseRadar's data.

Models are ranked by fixed cost plus 200 times the variable cost per hour, lowest first; the hours switch re-ranks at 100 or 400 hours. The class follows how charter operators and jet card programs group these cabins, as on our cost calculators. Each model's page lists every input under "How we estimate these costs".

None of the figures come from another charter operator's or broker's published budgets, Private Jet Card Comparisons or any other third-party ranking. Models are left out rather than guessed when an input can't be sourced, most often because no published fuel burn exists for that variant:

Frequently asked questions

Which private jet costs the least to operate?

In CRAFT's cost model, the lowest-cost jets to operate are very light jets such as the Cirrus Vision Jet, Eclipse 500 and Citation Mustang, at roughly $712,000 a year for the median very light jet flown 200 hours, before the purchase price and depreciation. The Pilatus PC-12 NGX turboprop costs less still. The table on this page ranks every model at 100, 200 or 400 hours a year.

What is the most expensive private jet to operate?

Among the models ranked here, the ultra-long-range jets sit at the top: the Global 7500, Global Express, Global 5000 and 6000 and Gulfstream G650 family, at about $3.49 million a year for the median ultra-long-range jet at 200 flight hours. Several large and ultra-long-range types, including the G700, G600, Falcon 6X and 8X, are not ranked yet because there is no published fuel burn we can cite for them.

How much does it cost to own a private jet per year?

At 200 flight hours a year, the median is about $712,000 for a very light jet, $1.17 million for a light jet, $1.5 million for a midsize, $1.82 million for a super-midsize, $2.4 million for a large jet and $3.49 million for an ultra-long-range jet in CRAFT's cost model, before buying the aircraft, financing it and depreciation.

Where do these figures come from?

From CRAFT's own cost model, the same for every aircraft: crew pay from U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data plus benefits, fuel burn from the manufacturer or Conklin & de Decker at one Jet A price from our jet fuel price data, published airport hangar rates, insurance priced on each model's value, and stated estimates by size for training, management, maintenance, engine reserves and fees. Every input is listed under "How we estimate these costs" on each model's page. No figures come from another charter operator's or broker's budgets, Private Jet Card Comparisons or other third-party rankings.

Can I use this data?

Yes. Quote it or republish the table with a link to this page. The citation box on the page has a ready-made citation, and the Download CSV button exports the table at the hours you pick.
