Orlando for private flyers: airports, seasons and events

Orlando has four airports that handle private jets. Orlando Executive (ORL) sits next to downtown, and Kissimmee Gateway (ISM) is the general aviation airport closest to Walt Disney World. Both are FAA relievers for Orlando International, so private flights can skip the airline hub.

Private jet airports near Orlando

  • ORL

    Orlando Executive Airport

Runway 6,004 ft · control tower · no airline service · U.S. Customs (user-fee airport) · 3 mi from downtown, straight line

Suits: By runway length: light to super-midsize jets; large-cabin jets depending on weight and weather.

Run by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority as the main reliever for MCO, close to downtown. CBP treats ORL as a user fee airport: pilots must request permission to land 24 hours ahead, and before 4 p.m.Sources: flymco.com, cbp.gov

  • MCO

    Orlando International Airport

Runway 12,005 ft · control tower · U.S. Customs by prior arrangement · 9 mi from downtown, straight line

Suits: By runway length: every jet size, large-cabin included.

  • SFB

    Orlando Sanford International Airport

Runway 11,002 ft · control tower · U.S. Customs by prior arrangement · 19 mi from downtown, straight line

Suits: By runway length: every jet size, large-cabin included.

  • ISM

    Kissimmee Gateway Airport

Runway 6,001 ft · control tower · no airline service · 18 mi from downtown, straight line

Suits: By runway length: light to super-midsize jets; large-cabin jets depending on weight and weather.

Kissimmee Gateway is run by the City of Kissimmee. It sits about eight miles south of Walt Disney World and 10 miles south of the Orange County Convention Center, according to the airport.Source: flykissimmee.com

In our order of preference for a private flight; routes on this page are priced from ORL. The airport changes the price, so ask about each. Each airport's page has its runways, customs and which jets fit. “Suits” is our rule of thumb from runway length and elevation: weight, temperature and the jet's own numbers decide it on the day.

When to go

Theme-park demand peaks over school holidays, especially spring break, summer and the Christmas-to-New Year week. Convention weeks at the Orange County Convention Center add business traffic.

Cost against time

Every route from Orlando, by cost and flight time

The bill is roughly hours times the rate, so cost climbs with time, and steps up where a trip needs a bigger jet. Minimums make the shortest hops cost more than their flight time.

Where do private jets fly from in Orlando?

We price Orlando from ORL (Orlando Executive Airport), then MCO (Orlando International Airport), SFB (Orlando Sanford International Airport) and ISM (Kissimmee Gateway Airport), in our order of preference for a private flight. The airport changes the price and the drive, so ask about each when you book.

How far can a private jet fly nonstop from Orlando?

By our conservative range assumptions, a light jet (about 1,700 nautical miles) reaches 171 of 209 destinations, the farthest being Regina; a midsize jet (about 2,000 nautical miles) reaches 186 of 209 destinations, the farthest being Calgary; a super-midsize jet (about 3,000 nautical miles) reaches 202 of 209 destinations, the farthest being Juneau; a large jet (about 4,000 nautical miles) reaches 204 of 209 destinations, the farthest being Anchorage. Beyond that, plan a fuel stop. Payload, winds and runway length decide it on the day.

What's the lowest-cost way to fly private from Orlando?

Fly the smallest jet that makes the trip nonstop (a light jet covers 171 of these routes), avoid peak days, and compare one-way pricing with a round trip. A jet card fixes the hourly rate ahead of time; compare cards within one jet size. For a super-midsize jet, CRAFT's is $12,950 an hour on the 25-hour card, fuel and FET included, on a Challenger 350. Empty legs and shared flights exist, but they run on someone else's schedule. No estimate here is a guaranteed price.
