Chicago for private flyers: airports, seasons and events
Chicago is a major convention and corporate market, with large trade shows at McCormick Place through the year. Private flights can use Midway or O'Hare, or skip the airline hubs entirely at Chicago Executive (PWK) or DuPage (DPA), both general aviation reliever airports with their own U.S. Customs facilities.

DuPage Airport in West Chicago serves general and business aviation. CBP lists it as a user fee airport with weekday hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; service outside those hours must be arranged before 5 p.m. Friday or the day before a federal holiday.Source: cbp.gov
In our order of preference for a private flight; routes on this page are priced from MDW. The airport changes the price, so ask about each. Each airport's page has its runways, customs and which jets fit. “Suits” is our rule of thumb from runway length and elevation: weight, temperature and the jet's own numbers decide it on the day.

The 25-hour CRAFT Fleet Jet Card is $323,750 at $12,950 an hour, fuel and FET included, on a Challenger 300 or 350. It bills flight time plus 12 minutes of taxi a leg, at least 2 hours a day, with no per-leg minimum.
No ferry or repositioning fees anywhere in the lower 48. The Caribbean, Mexico and Canada add repositioning at $4,000 an hour plus handling; Hawaii and Alaska are quoted per trip.
Round trips here fly out and back on different days, each day with its own minimum. Peak days and short-notice callout cost more.

Where do private jets fly from in Chicago?

How far can a private jet fly nonstop from Chicago?
By our conservative range assumptions, a light jet (about 1,700 nautical miles) reaches 180 of 211 destinations, the farthest being Santo Domingo; a midsize jet (about 2,000 nautical miles) reaches 195 of 211 destinations, the farthest being Antigua; a super-midsize jet (about 3,000 nautical miles) reaches 206 of 211 destinations, the farthest being Anchorage; a large jet (about 4,000 nautical miles) reaches 211 of 211 destinations, the farthest being Kauai. Beyond that, plan a fuel stop. Payload, winds and runway length decide it on the day.
What's the lowest-cost way to fly private from Chicago?
Fly the smallest jet that makes the trip nonstop (a light jet covers 180 of these routes), avoid peak days, and compare one-way pricing with a round trip. A jet card fixes the hourly rate ahead of time; compare cards within one jet size. For a super-midsize jet, CRAFT's is $12,950 an hour on the 25-hour card, fuel and FET included, on a Challenger 350. Empty legs and shared flights exist, but they run on someone else's schedule. No estimate here is a guaranteed price.
Can I fly private from Chicago to Mexico or the Caribbean?
Yes. 64 of the routes on this page cross a border, including Los Cabos (4h 00m, nonstop in a light jet), Nassau (3h 00m, nonstop in a light jet) and Tortola (4h 35m, nonstop in a midsize jet). An international flight clears customs at an airport of entry and everyone needs a passport. CRAFT's card rate covers the lower 48; Caribbean, Mexico and Canada trips add repositioning at $4,000 an hour plus handling.
Can a private jet clear customs at a smaller Chicago-area airport?
Yes. Chicago Executive (PWK) has an on-field U.S. Customs facility, and DuPage (DPA) is a CBP user fee airport. Both keep weekday core hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and require advance notice.
Do private jets use O'Hare and Midway?
Yes. The city's aviation department lists FBOs serving corporate and private aircraft at both airports. PWK and DPA are general aviation reliever airports that avoid the airline hubs.
