One-way private jet flights: how the price works
A one-way private jet is priced on the aircraft's whole day, not just your leg: getting it to you, flying you, and where it goes next. New York to Miami runs about $24.5k–$27k one way on a midsize jet by published rates.
Estimates from 16 companies' published jet card rates, checked October 2, 2026, times the flight time. Before minimums, peak days and airport fees. Not quotes. Reviewed by Israel Slodowitz, Founder & CEO, CRAFT.
How it's priced
Four things decide a one-way price
The hourly rate times your flight time is where a one-way bill starts. These move it, in plain terms.
- 01Repositioning
- If the aircraft has to fly empty to reach you, or back to base after dropping you, that time is usually in the price, as repositioning hours or inside the hourly rate. It is the single biggest reason one route quotes differently on different days.
- 02Minimums
- Programs bill 48 to 120 minutes a leg even when the hop is shorter, or a minimum per day. CRAFT's card bills 2 hours a day with no per-leg minimum, so a short one-way leg bills the daily minimum.
- 03The jet size
- The smallest aircraft that flies the leg nonstop is usually the cheapest. A light jet suits an hour or two; coast to coast, a super-midsize such as the Challenger 350 flies it without a fuel stop.
- 04The date
- Peak days cost more and need more notice: on CRAFT's card, 45 published peak days a year carry +20%. Short notice can add a surcharge too.

Three ways to fly one way
Charter, an empty leg or a card with one-way rates
One-way charter
The whole aircraft for your leg, on your schedule, quoted for the trip. Repositioning is priced in, so it is the dependable option for a fixed date, and the price depends on where the aircraft is.
How charter works →Empty leg
A repositioning flight sold at a discount. The price can be well under a regular one-way charter, but the date, time and route are someone else's, and it can move or be cancelled.
Empty legs explained →Card with one-way rates
Hours bought ahead at a fixed rate. CRAFT's Fleet Jet Card prices one-way legs across the lower 48 with no ferry or repositioning fees, at $12,950 an hour on the 25-hour card, fuel and FET included, on a guaranteed Challenger.*
Fleet Jet Card terms →If a CRAFT Challenger is unavailable for a confirmed trip, we may arrange a comparable aircraft. Terms
Outside the lower 48, CRAFT's card adds repositioning to and from the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada at $4,000 an hour, plus international handling. Charter trips there are quoted by the desk.

One-way private jet flights: questions
Can you book a private jet one way?
Yes. Most charter trips are one way or come back days later. You hire the whole aircraft for your leg; what changes is how the operator accounts for getting the aircraft to you and on to its next trip, which is why the same one-way route can quote differently on different days.
How much does a one-way private jet flight cost?
By published jet card rates, New York to Miami runs about $24.5k–$27k one way on a midsize jet (2h 35m), and a 2-hour flight generally costs twice the jet size's hourly rate before minimums and fees. A one-off charter quote also depends on where the aircraft is that day.
Is a one-way private jet half the price of a round trip?
Not always. When an aircraft has to fly back empty or come from somewhere else, that time is usually in a one-way charter price, either as repositioning hours or in the hourly rate, so a one-way quote can come close to a round trip. Jet cards that publish one-way rates within a service area take that out: CRAFT's card prices one-way legs with no ferry or repositioning fees anywhere in the lower 48.
Is there a minimum on a one-way private jet flight?
Usually. Published programs bill 48 to 120 minutes a leg even when the hop is shorter, and some bill a daily minimum instead. CRAFT's card bills at least 2 hours a day with no per-leg minimum, including 12 minutes of taxi a leg, so two short legs on the same day share one minimum.
Are empty legs the cheapest way to fly one way?
Often, if your plans can bend. An empty leg is a repositioning flight sold at a discount, but it runs on someone else's schedule and can move or be cancelled when the trip that created it changes. For a fixed date, a one-way charter quote or a card with one-way rates is the dependable option.
How does CRAFT price a one-way flight?
Charter: quoted for the specific trip from where our Challengers are that day; the website's estimate uses about $12,950 per flight hour, including 7.5% FET and repositioning, with airport and handling fees in the quote. Fleet Jet Card: $12,950 an hour on the 25-hour card, fuel and FET included, with fixed one-way rates across the lower 48 and no ferry or repositioning fees there. Caribbean, Mexico and Canada trips add repositioning to and from at $4,000 an hour, plus handling.
